Blockchain for Climate Collaborates with Vancouver Design and Technology School

Blockchain for Climate is excited to announce completion of a successful, productive collaboration with Vancouver design and technology school Red Academy through their community partnership program. This work brings us one step closer to our goal of putting the Paris Agreement on the blockchain, while giving designers an opportunity to contribute to an impact-driven project. We partnered with a Red Academy team of UX/UI designers from their latest cohort – Alex Liu, Antarpreet Sandhu, Brendan Sully, and Joyce Xiao – to build out the next iteration of our “BITMO platform.” The collaboration took place in March and April 2020.

“The goal of the Community Partnership Program is to provide our students with enriching real-life client experience. By partnering with you and your organization, we can empower our students to create transformative experiences through our design, development and marketing programs. At the same time, the opportunity of working with community-based projects aligns with RED’s ongoing efforts of promoting social impact and positive change in our local communities.”

Blockchain for Climate is building a system to connect the national carbon accounts of the world to enable cross-border collaboration in emission reductions. Doing this in a way that addresses the critical issue of double counting and is compliant with the Paris Agreement while helping Parties to the UNFCCC meet their nationally determined contributions requires a system that is not only technically secure and accountable, but also user friendly and intuitive. We are now one step closer to showcasing the next iteration of the BITMO platform thanks to Alex, Antarpreet, Brendan, and Joyce from Red Academy.

At COP25 Madrid, we had the pleasure of showcasing a demonstration version of the BITMO platform developed in partnership with Accenture at side events hosted by the Climate Chain Coalition.

As we move forward with our eyes of COP26 and critical Article 6 negotiations, we are excited to have collaborated with the team of talented designers to create the next iteration of the BITMO platform.

We look forward to refining the BITMO platform in the lead up to COP26 and collaborating with National Parties to create the best possible system for issuing and exchanging Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
